My Podcast Broke The Internet
When I put together all the internet things for The Parenting last week, it all went fairly well. Registered a new domain, bought the hosting, configured my FTP client, wrote my xml file - you know, all the stuff that I barely understand - and miraculously it all worked! On the first try!
Then… I tried to redirect the domain to my tumblr site (this one) and it messed everything up. And seven days later, I still haven’t figured out how to fix it. I put in a support ticket (because I don’t get reception on my cell phone… in MY OWN HOUSE), but I don’t know what will come of it.
So my alternate solution - because putting a podcast on hiatus after one episode is not an option - is uploading both episodes to SoundCloud! And this seems to work pretty well. I would have uploaded them directly to tumblr, but there is a 10MB file size limit.
The playlist of both episodes can be found here. If and when I fix my iTunes “official” podcast listing, I’ll let y’all know.
As with last time, please direct feedback to @shawnvmartin and @ctrlaltquin on Twitter. We look forward to hearing from you!

The Emperor’s New Groove
Hey! Come here a minute. Yeah, you - SVM fan. We need to talk about Deus Ex Minecraft.
Many of you found me through a (tragically) short Minecraft series called “The Arrival" in which an anonymous Minecrafter encounters some seemingly-supernatural occurrences in his otherwise normal Minecraft world. I smartly labeled it as part of a series (I Lucas’d the situation) entitled Deus Ex Minecraft which includes the follow-up series “NAMS,” and the final series (currently airing) entitled “Interrobang.”
If you were unaware of all of those things, now you know what a huge nerd I am. But I got the new Five Iron Frenzy album on repeat so you can’t make me care.
Interrobang consists of two series. The first aired a few months ago. It was produced under a tight schedule with focus on including various characters from the SVM past. More characters will be included in the future.
The second series is airing currently, with three episodes produced so far - over a period of a month. Two things: it’s holiday season and I work retail, and at this point this story has become my autobiography and I really don’t want to fuck it up.
I realized how seriously I was taking this project when I watched back one of my own cuts for the first time and it made me cry. Sentimentally. SENTIMENTALLY! WHAT’S WRONG WITH ME?!
It is very important to me that Deus Ex Minecraft completes a story by the close of the second series. This is a no-fail situation. I know how it ends. I’m still working on the part in between, but it’s vital that I get it right. I owe it to myself and I owe it to all of you who have watched me from the beginning.
Does part of me still feel like I’m winging all of this? Yes. Are there hidden messages in the videos that people still haven’t noticed? Absolutely. (I’m not trying to trick you. There are. Hints? Get lost.)
My favorite aspect of making the second series is that I know all the rules of this now. I didn’t know them when I started, but I do now. And it’s fun to watch all of you speculate - sometimes I see comments that make me want to scream through the computer, “Yes! THIS! Keep going, you’re almost there!” but a major allure of the story is how I basically don’t talk about it. This blog post is the first time I’ve talked about it extensively. And I wanted to do it to put your mind at ease: the episodes will be slow, but the story will be complete. And who knows what’s next?
No seriously, who knows what’s next?

This year has been a quiet one for my so-called Internet Life.
After two and a half years of non-stop production of videos and podcasts, I abruptly left the scene when my personal life turned upside down. I took the time necessary to concentrate on what was important to me, and I emerged a better, stronger person. And now that I have, it’s time for me to return to one of my passions - making content for a bunch of strangers on the internet.
Starting a family of my own has been a primary goal for a number of years. And now, with my partner in crime Quin Baker, I am able to say that very shortly, that goal will be completed. Our baby (spoiler alert!) will be born in April 2014.
Now that we have reached the halfway point of our pregnancy and things have begun to settle into a routine, we have found the time and energy to fill you lot in on all the funny, gross, silly and nasty details. We have chosen a weekly podcast as the best approach to this task.
The iTunes link is not yet available, but you can copy this link and use “Subscribe to Podcast…” in iTunes to get ahead of the crowd. If you just want the raw MP3, click here.
Feel free to comment on this post to leave us feedback - but to communicate with us directly, please use our Twitter accounts: shawnvmartin and ctrlaltquin.
We’re looking forward to this adventure and would love you to be along for the ride!
